Florence Montmare presents her mid-career retrospective consisting of fragmentary and allegorical narratives in an interplay of photography, film, performance, painting, and installation created over the past 25 years. The exhibition takes place at Gotland Museum/Gotlands Konstmuseum in Visby, Sweden, until March 1, 2026.
Throughout her career, Montmare has explored numerous themes such as the conditions of displacement and belonging (It Happens in the Meeting), the hopes and dreams of strangers (America Series), documenting time and memory (Illuminations), the elemental conditions of landscape and figure (Scenes from an Island), notions of time geographies (Missed Connections), and the origin and nature of self, and its cycles (KRIΣ).
